Thirty years ago, when I started in real estate brokerage in Northern California, I was all about building – my client base, my business, and my family. Well, the real estate gods smiled on us, and we have been fortunate.
But I have to admit that it was not until I began raising and donating money that I began to experience a new level of satisfaction. I came to know that it’s not about how much money I make or what I can accumulate in life that makes me happy: it’s about helping those less fortunate than me to lead better lives.
A few years back, I convinced our state Realtors association to make a very generous donation of $150,000 for affordable housing in our county, and I’ve been able to raise other significant funds to help assure true diversity in our community.
But it’s not enough.
The purpose of our business is to become a Donation Machine, the conduit for donations from the real estate community to worthy charities, schools and non-profits throughout the United States and Canada.
